Board Committee Descriptions

Clin-Pac: This is a separate organization with its own budget, established to collect lobbying money for distribution to political campaigns favoring LACSW values. It follows state laws regarding financial reporting of this activity, and reports its activities to the LACSW Board.

Continuing Education Unit: LACSW is one of three organizations the La. Social Work licensing board recognizes as having authority to grant CEU approval. Specifically, we do the review and approvals. There is a 2-page CEU criteria list. We are glad to send it to any organization that is trying to get approval for a workshop.

Education: The education committee with the support of LACSW produces several quality educational programs yearly. The focus is highly professional to general public in nature. LACSW provides the highest in educational opportunities to the community.

Ethics: This committee activates as needed to guide members on practice dilemas and ethical issues.

Executive: This committee is made up of the current officers of the board and the immediate past- president, meeting as needed between board meetings for pressing decisions that can’t await a next board meeting.

Financial: The Finance Committee develops and oversees implementation of an annual budget; makes recommendations to the Board of Directors about the financial operation of the organization; and, serves as a consultant to the Treasurer regarding fiscal matters.

Grant: The grant committee researches funding sources and prepares grants for submission to funding sources.

Legislative: Recommends goals for legislative action. Develops a legislative plan of action. Prepares information on legislative issues for membership. Works closely with the lobbyist and president to carry out the Associations legislative agenda. Oversees Clin-Pac, the political action arm of the legislative committee charged with specific political actions endorsed by the Board.

Managed Care: This committee dialogues with managed care companies over issues that affect the practice of clinicial social work and LACSW members. Provides information and guidance to members concerning pertinent and vital managed care issues. Supports members in efforts to interface with managed care companies. Advises the Board regarding review of complaints, suggestions for direction and discussion of issues involving managed care. Develops and implements marketing strategies to managed care companies.

Media This committee watches for opportunities to publicize favorable actions of LACSW or its members.

Membership: Develops, promotes and expands membership strategies to recruit new members and encourages active participation throughout the state. Organizes the phone, fax, email distribution program to inform members concerning issues that need immediate attention or action.

Mentorship: Mentorship is a voluntary process in which developing clinicians may enhance their skills and professional identities through interaction with a role model of their choice. Clearly distinguished from clinical supervision and psychotherapy, clinical mentorship embraces a collegial relationship that is based on shared professional interests and mutual respect. The committee hopes to identify future leaders through this process and encourage membership in LACSW as well. The mentoring program is offered as a free service to graduating MSW's. Newsletter: Gather information, process, and produce the quarterly newsletter for the association.

Nominations: Find appropriate people to serve on the board of directors; find appropriate people to sit on and chair committees.

Public Relations: Compiles and distributes a membership directory to assist in referrals. Increase awareness of the Association and its services in the social work community. Increase awareness of member services to managed care companies in association with the Managed Care Committee.

Website: Coordinate development and creation of website with Web Master; and provides information to Webmaster collected from committees and other members to update the Association’s Website.
